EHS Manager

About the Role

Responsible for leadership of all facility Safety, Health and Environmental Control functions. Ensures compliance to all applicable Corporate, Federal, State and local safety, industrial hygiene, fire code and environmental regulations/policies. Ensures all safety, environmental, and industrial hygiene programs are designed and executed in strict alignment with Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), maintaining the integrity of sterile cleanrooms, validated systems, and manufacturing processes. Provides technical expertise to the facility, interpreting data, identifying hazards, assessing risk, and implementing solutions to prevent serious injury, environmental impact, and property damage. Provides input as part of site plant staff on overall plant general policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Maintain current knowledge of Federal, state, and local Safety/Industrial Hygiene/Environmental regulations, codes, and other communications; advise management of compliance status and conditions requiring attention.
• Analyze statistical data, identify improvement opportunities, and implement solutions.
• Collaborate with the VP of Operations and Staff to develop plant procedures, policies, action plans, practices, and rules to reduce all forms of losses.
• Establish and administer Safety, Health, and Environmental Department budget.
• Analyze and recommend expenditures for safety equipment, guarding devices, alarm systems, etc.
• Hire, train, evaluate, and develop a qualified EHS staff.
• Provide technical guidance and resolution of key safety, industrial hygiene, environmental, ergonomic, and fire protection issues.
• Conduct project review and provide early loss control input to engineering and operating management on new or changed processes and/or equipment.
• Develop, implement, communicate, and manage various loss control programs including, but not limited to, lockout/tag out, confined space entry, industrial hygiene monitoring, hearing conservation, chemical right-to-know, and community right-to-know.
• Motivate and instill safety awareness in all plant employees, staff, and contractors through development and management of training, incentive programs, and communication.
• Serve as the facility’s safety and environmental liaison with state, regional, and local regulatory agencies.
• Develop and coordinate plans for emergencies, response teams, spill cleanup, and disaster planning.
• Work on special projects as they arise.
• Provide management with detailed reports on all major property losses and human injury.
• Act as loss control contact for fire insurance issues and inspections.
• Serve as a member of the plant managing staff.

• Work with minimum supervision; responsible for establishing the EHS Plan for the site with input from the Global EHS Director/Manager and site staff.
• Lead person in the area of EHS issues; receives general direction from direct manager.
• Responsible for Environmental and OSHA compliance which may impact the introduction of new products.
• Loss control efforts can impact insurance costs for risk protection and directly affect site operating costs through reduction of workers' compensation costs.
• Efforts also affect employee and public goodwill through regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university is preferred.
• Certification, Registration, or Licensure preferred: Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH).
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in loss control, safety, industrial hygiene, environmental safety, emergency response, or related fields.
• Supervisory experience required.
• Strong mechanical knowledge or understanding of manufacturing operations.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment. Exposure to chemical hazards, noise, and radiation. Manufacturing and warehouse environments. Some physical exertion required, including minimal lifting of less than 50 lbs., climbing, and walking. Typically requires travel less than 5% of the time.
