EHS Leader, Manufacturing
About the Role
Pioneer Metal Finishing is the leading surface engineering company in North America, delivering consistent, quality metal finishing solutions for mission-critical applications. The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Leader works to create and enforce a culture of safety within the organization, ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations. This role partners with the Corporate Safety and Environmental Leader to implement programs, policies, and assessments that maintain a safe environment for employees, visitors, and contractors.
The EHS Leader supervises, instructs, trains, and coaches managerial and hourly personnel on environmental and safety aspects of their roles, including proper techniques, work instructions, and plant operations. This position also oversees the divisional pollution control team.
Responsibilities
- In conjunction with the Corporate Safety and Environmental Leader, maintain and enforce safety and environmental policies and procedures based on federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
- Ensure environmental compliance for all federal, state, and local regulations related to the division.
- Stay abreast of federal, state, and local environmental and safety regulations; recommend modifications to policies and procedures as needed.
- Develop and deliver training programs on EHS policies, procedures, and regulations for front-line employees and supervisors.
- Implement effective emergency response action programs.
- Work with the Corporate Safety and Environmental Leader to monitor physical, biological, and chemical hazards; develop action plans to alleviate potential risks.
- Maintain necessary records and reports according to established federal, state, and local government guidelines and Pioneer best practices.
- Accurately document and record confidential information while maintaining employee and company confidentiality.
- Serve as a point of contact with federal, state, and local regulatory bodies as directed by the Corporate Safety and Environmental Leader.
- Partner with Human Resources on Workers’ Compensation claims investigations, modified duties, and return-to-work programs.
- Perform audits to ensure compliance within EHS programs; determine and implement corrective actions, including follow-up testing and training.
- Coordinate monthly safety and environmental meetings with division employees and leadership.
- Partner with all levels of the organization to promote health, safety, and environmental topics; drive activities to achieve results and create a safety-first culture.
- Maintain SDS sheets for the facility per GHS standards.
- Help ensure target safety KPIs are met.
- Responsible for achieving maximum performance of the pollution control team while maintaining high-quality standards.
- Work with Human Resources on all personnel issues for employees on the pollution control team, including training, performance reviews, and formal performance coaching.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety or Environmental field or equivalent industrial experience preferred.
- 3 years of experience performing similar duties in a manufacturing environment.
- 3 years of industrial wastewater experience or equivalent education preferred.
- Sufficient knowledge of health and safety regulations and practices to effectively create and enforce a culture of safety.
- Demonstrated organizational, recordkeeping, and documentation skills, including attention to detail.
- Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to communicate and provide verbal feedback professionally.
- Self-motivated, positive attitude, and ability to build collaborative relationships; demonstrates enthusiasm for the role.
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office and ERP software.
- Demonstrated decision-making and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information.
Physical/Environmental/Chemical Hazards: Sharp parts, sharp tooling, heavy carts, occasional hot and cold temperature and humidity levels, heat from ovens, moderate noise levels, limited hand and air tool use, compressed air (must use hearing protection). Must be able to lift 30-50 lbs. unassisted. Potential splash exposure near process lines. Various chemicals used in process.
