Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and continuously improve environmental compliance programs at our Long Beach facility
- Ensure full compliance with applicable local, state (California), and federal environmental regulations
- Monitor, interpret, and communicate new and proposed environmental legislation, advising leadership on potential impacts and required actions
- Conduct regular environmental audits and inspections to verify regulatory compliance
- Manage compliance calendars, recordkeeping systems, and environmental tracking tools
- Develop, maintain, and update site operational plans including the Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) and Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) plan
- Oversee air quality compliance, including recordkeeping and reporting for permitted emission sources under applicable Air Quality Management District requirements
- Maintain and update the site Hazardous Materials Business Plan (HMBP) and submit required regulatory documentation
- Manage the site's industrial wastewater discharge permit, including ongoing compliance, updates, and regulatory submittals to the Los Angeles County Sanitation District
- Lead hazardous waste management activities, including proper identification, handling, storage, manifesting, and regulatory reporting in accordance with DTSC and EPA requirements
- Collaborate with the broader EHS team on day-to-day site compliance needs
- Partner with engineering and operations teams to review new equipment, facility changes, and manufacturing processes for environmental and permitting implications
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with regulatory agencies and internal stakeholders
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- 4+ years of professional experience in environmental and regulatory compliance program development and execution
- Demonstrated experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering or a related engineering discipline (preferred)
- 6+ years of environmental compliance experience in a dynamic manufacturing setting
- Solid working knowledge of California environmental regulations and regulatory agencies
- Experience developing and maintaining air emissions permits under South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) jurisdiction
- Familiarity with industrial wastewater permitting through the Los Angeles County Sanitation District
- Hands-on experience developing and maintaining SWPPPs and Best Management Practices (BMPs) for stormwater compliance in California
- Experience managing hazardous waste programs, including generator requirements, manifesting, waste characterization, and annual reporting
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate complex regulatory requirements into clear, actionable guidance
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a high-pressure environment
