About the role

Join the team as an Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Coordinator at Smithfield Foods. This key role involves enhancing EHS programs, supporting compliance with worker’s compensation laws and regulatory frameworks, and ensuring the Site Security Plan is followed.

Responsibilities

  • EHS Program Management: Support the management of location EHS programs, including updates, inspections, metrics, and other duties as requested.
  • Process Safety and Security: Ensure compliance with Process Safety Management/Risk Management plan requirements for the ammonia refrigeration system and help maintain Site Security Plan.
  • Data Tracking and Reporting: Gather and track key EHS KPIs such as OSHA/environmental violations, incident rates, employee turnover, workers’ compensation claims, and audit results. Assist in reviewing and monitoring incident investigation reports and employee exposure surveys.
  • ISO Certification Support: Support location ISO certification management teams and documentation control requirements. Ensure conformance to ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 programs, and maintain SIPS and EMS programs.
  • Training and Compliance: Provide training for production employees and management staff as required by OSHA and environmental permits. Ensure adherence to company policies and report non-compliance for correction or re-training. Support the determination of location compliance with safety processes and environmental permits.
  • Team Collaboration: Ensure effective implementation and maintenance of all EHS requirements. Support the EHS team to comply with regulations and company standards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED and 2+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience handling multiple assignments simultaneously, setting goals, and completing commitments on schedule.
  • Accustomed to working long hours, weekends, and remaining in an on-call status when required.

Qualifications

  • Good decision maker and ability to perform in stressful situations.
  • Demonstrated computer skills, particularly in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and company software packages.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedures in English.
  • Basic math skills to manage Key Performance Indicators.
  • Ability to be respectful, approachable, and team-oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
