EHS AUDIT SPECIALIST

About the role

The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) division of the Bureau of Engineering Design & Construction (BEDC) within the NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is seeking a Project Manager to serve as an EHS Audit Specialist. The role involves supporting the EHS directorate, monitoring compliance with EHS laws and regulations, and assisting in the review of EHS performance of BEDC's projects and contractors.

Responsibilities

• Work with an external EHS auditor to review the EHS performance of BEDC's projects and contractors.
• Schedule and manage audits, ensuring the completion and receipt of audit documents.
• Develop and present audit reports, and ensure that audit reports are reviewed and communicated to project sites.
• Follow up on missing or open items to ensure their completion.
• Liaise with EHS program personnel to address issues requiring intervention through the BEDC EHS program elements.
• Help develop the next audit phase based on the results from the previous phase.

Requirements

• Permanent Civil Service status as a Project Manager.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to meet deadlines and be flexible in work assignments.
• Understanding of ISO-style auditing and environmental, health, and safety requirements.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite products.

Qualifications

• A baccalaureate degree in engineering, engineering technology, architecture, landscape architecture, construction, construction management, or related fields, and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in project management.
• A four year high school diploma or equivalent and five years of experience in project management.
• A combination of education and experience as described above to make up the equivalent of five years of education and experience.

Skills

• Critical thinking skills and effective independent data analysis.
• Understanding of environmental, health, and safety requirements.
• Operation of a motor vehicle for site visits, inspections, and meetings.

Pay

$66,330.00 – $99,528.00
