About the role
The Environmental, Health and Safety Specialist will play a key role in supporting the Safety Team at Georgia-Pacific's Fort Smith, AR Dixie facility. The team is part of the world’s leading manufacturers of paper plate and bowl products, with a history dating back 78 years.
Responsibilities
- Support facility and department level risk assessments and Improvement Plan development
- Aid in identifying improvement opportunities and implementing corrective actions to reduce risk
- Participate in Hazard Identification Risk Assessments (HIRA) efforts, including leading these efforts and implementing corrective actions
- Develop and implement core EHS programs, covering areas such as Lock Tag Verify, Confined Space, Emergency Preparedness, Fall Protection, Incident Investigation, Mobile Equipment, Cranes and Rigging, Personal Protective Equipment, and Safe My Life
- Lead compliance system owners (CSOs) in ensuring they have the necessary knowledge and skills
- Prepare and conduct required regulatory training and collaborate with facility personnel to enhance safety and health awareness
- Be a visible presence and EHS resource across various operations, maintenance, and contract work groups
- Conduct and lead incident investigations to improve investigation capabilities within the organization
- Assist in integrating and continuously improving Human Organizational Performance (HOP) and Save My Life (SML)
Qualifications
- Proven experience working in a manufacturing or industrial environment
- Hands-on experience implementing and utilizing Safety Management Systems
- Demonstrated ability to develop regulatory compliance programs and deliver training
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Safety & Health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field
- Professional certifications such as Associate Safety Professional (ASP) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
