About the Role
The Environmental and Safety Manager will implement and maintain policies to ensure a safe and healthy work environment, as well as ensure that the facility complies with local, state, and federal regulatory body laws.
Responsibilities
- Organizational ownership of PWT Environmental and Safety Management Systems.
- Coach and mentor all leaders and developing leaders in aspects of safety and environmental compliance.
- Conduct compliance training in key areas such as LOTO, fire prevention, fall protection, illness and heat programs, machine guarding, mobile equipment safety, contractor management, and other required topics.
- Able to train large groups in person.
- Maintain recordkeeping, including safety committee minutes.
- Conduct audits and risk assessments to identify facility safety and environmental risks.
- Propose and implement solutions to mitigate identified risks.
- Develop and manage environmental and safety procedures for all areas of the Burlington Facility.
- Participate in the Employee Safety Committee and direct its activities to ensure meaningful employee engagement.
- Prepare and schedule annual training covering emergency procedures, workplace safety, and other required compliance training.
- Lead the Safety Observation Card (SOC) program.
- Develop, implement, and manage inspection policies, procedures, and schedules.
- Participate in incident root cause investigations and corrective actions.
- Understand and manage compliance for all environmental permits, including preparing environmental reports such as TurboWaste & SARA 312.
- Data collection and entry into online portals for environmental compliance.
- Manage industrial stormwater systems, including collecting stormwater samples for laboratory testing according to permit requirements.
- Monitor plant stormwater systems.
- Ensure material safety data sheets (SDS) are maintained and readily accessible.
- Manage hazardous waste and maintain records of discharge of hazardous waste and/or pollutants, as required.
- Manage Air Operation Permit and inspect/file daily air quality records.
- Collaborate with all other departments.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Extensive knowledge of environmental regulations and policies.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficient in technology and equipment used in environmental inspections.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
- Strong technical understanding of occupational health and safety regulations and practices, with expertise in machine and electrical safety.
Work Environment
- Office setting and manufacturing plant (inside and outside in extreme weather conditions).
Physical Demands
- Physically able to conduct inspections and carry equipment used for inspections.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at a time.
Travel Requirements
Partnering with businesses for training classes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Safety, Occupational Safety and Health, or related field preferred.
- Three years of related experience.
- Equivalent combination of experience and education to perform the job effectively.
