About the role
The EHS Coordinator plays an essential role in establishing and promoting a culture of safety within the Industrial Services sites they are assigned, focusing on compliance with both internal safety policies and external regulatory requirements. This position involves overseeing safety protocols at a specific site, ensuring adherence to the highest standards of workplace safety and health. The role supports the organization’s commitment to safety through regular audits, training, and implementation of safety programs to minimize risks, reduce workplace accidents, and maintain a safe environment for all employees.
Responsibilities
- Assist with safety training programs for all employees at the site, including emergency response, hazardous material handling, and equipment safety.
- Ensure employees arriving at the site have the required industry-specific training (e.g., OSHA or MSHA).
- Assist in performing new hire orientations, hazard awareness training, and other required training.
- Coordinate and conduct daily safety meetings, provide educational materials, and assist with drills to enhance employee awareness of safety procedures and regulations.
- Develop and improve hazard recognition and mitigation protocols for all team members.
- Document and store all training and education materials onsite and within KPA.
- Implement and enforce safety protocols, including company policies, Site Safety Plan (SSP), client guidelines, and relevant federal regulations (OSHA, MSHA).
- Perform continual monitoring of job sites and work habits to ensure compliance with company and regulatory health and safety regulations (e.g., Lockout-Tagout, Required Permits, Work Habits, Facility Inspections).
- Lead and/or participate in incident investigations, ensuring thorough documentation and identification of root causes.
- Ensure injured employees receive appropriate care in a timely manner, including utilization of CORE Occupational Medicine.
- Document and implement corrective actions in KPA, including Safety Alerts, Incident Investigation reports, and Root Cause Analysis.
- Work with operations and safety management to determine and enforce actionable items related to incidents.
- Establish and maintain communication between site operations and EH&S, ensuring responsiveness to field employees and managers.
- Facilitate a culture where safety is prioritized, engaging the entire organization in behavior-based safe work practices.
- Act as a constructive partner with the operations team and a resource to operations.
- Interface with customer safety teams and align company systems with customer requirements.
- Conduct and document daily inspections and audits to identify safety violations, potential hazards, or non-compliance.
- Promptly address issues, provide solutions, and implement corrective actions.
- Perform daily safety reports to provide data to site safety and project management.
- Maintain accurate safety records and ensure timely input into KPA.
- Assist safety management with data gathering, analytics, and creation of safety meeting topics and documentation.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations.
- Engage with regulatory agencies, participate in inspections, and facilitate audits to uphold safety standards.
- Ensure proper documentation and notification of citations and assist in implementing corrective and preventive measures.
- Stay informed about industry best practices and emerging safety technologies.
- Collaborate with site/area management to identify opportunities for enhancing safety measures and implementing new strategies.
- Provide feedback from the field to aid in process improvement and implementation progress.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Regional or Area Safety Manager.
Requirements
- OSHA 30 certification required.
- Minimum 2 years of prior experience in the heavy industrial construction industry (e.g., manufacturing, pipeline, mining, food and beverage, power, refining).
- Working knowledge of OSHA regulations, standards, and other applicable codes.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to assess potential hazards and risks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Understanding of incident investigation techniques and root cause analysis.
- Ability to understand and implement emergency response plans and procedures.
- Ability to build relationships and collaborate with employees at all levels, as well as external stakeholders (e.g., regulatory agencies, contractors).
- MSHA Certification or background preferred.
- Familiarity with risk assessment methodologies such as Job Safety Analysis (JSA) or Hazard and Operability Study (HAZOP).
- Experience in conducting safety audits or inspections.
- Certification in First Aid/CPR.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Ability to use safety management software for reporting and documentation.
Work Environment
- Indoor office setting with controlled temperature.
- Outdoor industrial sites with exposure to weather extremes and difficult terrain.
- Potential exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, or other environmental factors.
- Travel requirements: up to 10% of time.
- Compliance with all applicable safety regulations, personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements, and Loenbro's Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) policies.
