Job Description

The CST Educator develops and delivers an engaging curriculum aligned with accreditation standards for Surgical Technology and Surgical First Assist programs. They utilize a variety of instructional methods including lectures, labs, simulations, and clinical rotations. The role involves facilitating student learning through effective communication, fostering a positive and supportive learning environment, evaluating student progress through written and practical assessments, and providing constructive feedback to guide improvement. The CST Educator collaborates with preceptors and clinical sites to ensure a seamless learning experience for students, participates in program development and continuous improvement initiatives, maintains accurate and complete student records, and serves as a resource and educator to their health care team on new policies, procedures, equipment, and healthcare information.

The CST Educator actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. They must be willing to adjust their hours as needed or as assigned (evenings/nights/weekends) to meet the educational needs of the staff.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree required. Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., Health Sciences, Education) preferred.
  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) required. Must have de-escalation training completed by the end of position orientation (90 days); must have appropriate level of de-escalation training.
  • Minimum (2) years of experience in a teaching environment. Experience as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) required.

Experience

Physical Demands

  • Work is moderately active: involves sitting with frequent requirements to move about the office, move about the facility, and to travel to another facility within the SRHS service area.
  • Work involves exerting a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
  • Work involves using many physical motions in performing daily work activities; subject to exposure of body fluids, sputum and tissues, which may carry the hazard of infectious disease.
  • Work involves using repetitive motions: substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and or fingers while operating standard office equipment such as computer keyboard.
  • Work involves being able to perceive the nature of sound at normal speaking levels with or without correction; the ability to make fine discriminations in sound.
  • Work requires close visual and acuity and the ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus, i.e. shift gaze from viewing a computer monitor to forms/printed material that are closer to compare data at close vision.
  • Must be able to be active for extended periods of time without experiencing undue fatigue.
  • Must be able to work schedules assigned with the understanding that changes may be instituted according to the needs of the hospital for off days, shifts or weekends.

Special Demands

  • Superior customer service skills and professional etiquette.
  • Proficient knowledge and ability to use a computer (must be keyboard proficient) and other office technology (i.e., telephone, fax, etc.), MS Outlook and Word.
  • Appropriate clinical judgment and apply appropriate professional skills to a patient population of all ages.

Travel

  • Must travel throughout the SRHS service area to provide education at the division level on various units and in a formal classroom setting – with the employee providing his/her own transportation.
