Educator I Gallery Attendant (Flint Hills Discovery Center) - Seasonal

About the role

The City of Manhattan is accepting applications for an Educator I Gallery Attendant. This position will be responsible for working directly with the visiting public or youth and adult program participants. The primary responsibility will be to provide in-gallery exhibit monitoring and thematic education in support of The Smithsonian's Sea Monsters Unearthed traveling exhibit. Educators will reflect the mission for the Parks & Recreation Department and uphold each specific division's mission of continuing education in their respective fields. The selected candidate(s) must be able to attend all in-service training sessions.

Schedule

• Tuesday - Saturday, 10:00AM - 5:00PM
• Sunday 12:00PM - 5:00PM
• Occasional evenings
• Support for additional programs and events after hours and on Mondays
• Training may be required prior to exhibit start date

Responsibilities

• Works directly with the visiting public
• Implements and provides in-gallery supervision to maintain proper crowd control and assure security of all exhibition components
• Assist with the data logging required for gallery exhibits
• Leads quality informal education programs on select topics for youth and adult audiences
• Assists the Curator of Education, and Education Supervisors in the development of programs that are safe, inclusive, age-appropriate, and fun
• Maintain independence and flexibility in program delivery to account for changing conditions and participant needs
• Fosters positive interactions with children, youth, and other visiting guests
• Performs minor first aid for injuries that may occur during education programs
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required:

• Must be 16 years or older

Preferred:

• Previous experience in customer service roles
• First Aid/CPR/AED Certification (Can be obtained through Parks & Recreation)
• High School diploma, GED or equivalent (if 18 years or older)

Pay

Starting Wage: $13.00/hour
