Educator (Early Intervention)

Responsibilities

• Uses approved instruments to conduct developmental screenings in the child's native language, assesses and evaluates children aged birth to three years old, working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to determine eligibility.
• Demonstrates competence in interpreting screening and evaluation results, focusing on self-help skills, fine and gross motor development, mobility, sensory integration, behavior, play, and oral-motor functioning, and communicates findings to families in a mindful way, considering health literacy.
• Creates adaptations of the environment and selects, designs, and fabricates assistive devices to support the child's development and functional skills, taking into account the family's culture and traditions.
• Develops and implements an Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) with the family and the Early Intervention (EI) team, creating therapeutic activities and programs to prevent or minimize impairments, delays, or losses of functional ability.
• Engages actively with the family throughout the entire evaluation/assessment and IFSP process, ensuring consistent communication with the EI team, medical professionals, and community contacts.

Requirements

• Masters in Early Childhood Education or related field, or certified by the Rhode Island Department of Education as an Early Childhood Education teacher, Early Childhood Special Education teacher, or a teacher for All Grades Special Education categories.
• Completion of the level one training of the Rhode Island Early Learning Developmental Standards - Birth to Five or ability to complete the training within one year of employment.
• Participation in the agency's orientation process and attendance at the state-required Intro to EI training within the first year of employment.
• Valid pediatric CPR and First Aid certification.
• Ability to provide reliable transportation and proof of a current drivers license.
• Physical ability to work at the child's level, climb stairs, handle weather conditions, lift, bend, and squat.
