Educational Technologist
About the role
The Educational Technologist supports the educational mission of the UC Davis School of Medicine through administration of the School’s Learning Management System (LMS), comprehensive support of educational technologies used at the school, evaluation and research efforts, and application of burgeoning AI tools and technologies.
Responsibilities
- LMS Administration and Educational Technology Support (50%)
- Evaluation and Research Support (20%)
- General AEID Support and SOM IT Liaison (10%)
- Applied AI, Analytics, and Workflow Improvement (10%)
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in educational technology, instructional design, information science, computer science, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 1-3 Years Learning Management System (LMS) Administration Experience
- Demonstrated experience administering or supporting a learning management system, preferably Moodle or a Moodle-based platform.
- Experience supporting educational technology tools in a higher education or health professions education environment.
- Technical experience with video capture and distribution platforms, preferably Panopto.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills, with the ability to train and support users with varying levels of technical expertise using tact and diplomacy.
- Able to manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, and technical teams.
- Experience with educational measurement, student assessment, and program evaluation in higher education.
- Exceptional communication skills to effectively act as a spokesperson/liaison on behalf of OME with university, health system, departments, centers, faculty, staff, trainees, and the community.
- Analytical skills to solve complex problems, investigate various sources of information and techniques, and develop acceptable solutions.
- Ability to adapt to novel situations for which standard procedures or policies are not yet defined.
- Knowledge of and experience working with key administrative/business software and computer systems including Windows or Mac OS, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point), Web browser applications, HTML/CSS, and email applications.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in educational technology, instructional design, information science, computer science, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience supporting medical or health professions education programs.
- Experience with MedHub, ExamSoft, iClicker, Zoom, or similar platforms.
- Experience designing reports, dashboards, or analytics from LMS or evaluation system data.
- Familiarity with data workflows, exports, and basic data transformation techniques.
- Experience or strong interest in AI tools, prompt engineering, and applied analytics in an educational context.
- Experience developing training materials, documentation, or conducting faculty development sessions.
- Experience with statistical software, data collection and data management software, including Qualtrics, R, and Tableau.
- Experience in developing a variety of assessments in an educational and/or clinical setting.
