Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Certificate in Foreign Language Interpreting preferred
- Ability to use email or willingness to learn with training
- Ability to use and manipulate Excel spreadsheet documents
- Working knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation, syntax, and idiomatic usage of English and Spanish
- Working knowledge of equivalent translations of general, technical, and subject-matter terms in English and Spanish
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
- Ability to proofread paperwork in English and Spanish
- Knowledge of District organization, operations, policies, and objectives preferred
- Able to demonstrate proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing in English and Spanish
- Working knowledge of idiomatic phrases in English and Spanish
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions
- Ability to work without direct supervision
- Strong attention to detail in all assigned duties
- Maintains responsibility for accuracy and completeness of interpretation
- Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with District personnel and the public
- Ability to utilize online resources
- Ability to operate a personal computer and peripheral equipment using modern software (e.g., calculator, scanner, fax, copier)
- Able to provide helpful, courteous, and timely information and assistance to parents, the public, and staff
- Understands the need for complete confidentiality in all matters relating to assigned duties
Responsibilities
- Work cooperatively and collaboratively with teachers, staff, administrators, and parents
- Interact positively with students, parents, and staff, modeling appropriate dress and behavior
- Answer phone calls from Spanish-speaking parents
- Respond to email from District personnel and relay messages to parents
- Contact District personnel to schedule conferences, answer parent questions, and address concerns
- Provide interpretation for parents during enrollments and parent meetings
- Interpret simultaneously or consecutively into Spanish while maintaining message content, context, and style during conferences and meetings
- Follow ethical codes and canons of interpreting; maintain confidentiality unless authorized by the District
- Assist in preparing and disseminating written translations of District documents, examinations, and instructional materials
- Prepare written translations of technical, educational, and general materials for District personnel and interpret for district employees as needed
- Compile terminology and information for interpreting and translations, including technical terms used in educational settings (e.g., district and state-wide testing)
- Proofread and suggest revisions for translated materials
- Perform other duties as assigned
Job Goal
To strengthen and facilitate communication in the language most beneficial between students and parents in the educational environment. To interpret learning and behavior goals within the school district's curriculum so that students can benefit from these provisions.

Reports To: Assistant Superintendent or Superintendent
Terms of Employment
The duration of the position is contingent upon continued funding of the program, project, or assignment. Salary and work calendar are established by the Board of Education.
Performance evaluation will be conducted in accordance with Board of Education policy by the immediate supervisor.
