Educational Assistant II - Part-Time (Special Education/Resource)
School District #6 is located in the famous Rogue River Valley of Southern Oregon, nestled between the Cascade and Siskiyou Mountain ranges. About the Role
The Educational Assistant II assists in delivering instructional programs by helping the Teacher implement classroom activities, assess student progress, and reinforce instruction by leading small groups and individuals in supplementary exercises.
This is a part-time position at Mae Richardson Elementary, with a schedule of 5.75 hours per day, 184 days per year (August–June).
Responsibilities
- Assists in implementing classroom learning exercises planned by the Teacher.
- Oversees group activity in the classroom, including supervision of the whole class for short periods.
- Assists small groups or individuals with skill reinforcement or lesson assignments.
- Presents teacher-designed subject matter to students through lecture, discussion, and supervised skill development.
- Coordinates daily activities and instruction as directed.
- Assists in proctoring student assessments and maintaining student records, including attendance, progress, grades, and IEP/PEP documents.
- Measures student-produced work against clear rubrics or answer keys.
- Supervises students in playgrounds, cafeterias, bus stops, and hallways.
- Assists in classroom setup and maintenance of materials and supplies.
- Corrects student work and distributes instructional materials.
- Confers with teaching staff or parents about student progress and provides observational feedback.
- Assists in ordering, preparing, and administering instructional materials.
- Prepares for IEP meetings and tracks IEP data.
- Assists in behavioral management, including modeling appropriate behavior and responding to discipline issues.
- Accompanies students on school bus routes, providing general supervision.
- Performs clerical duties, including word processing, phone coverage, and record maintenance.
- Reports safety, sanitary, and fire hazards immediately.
- Complies with District policies and procedures.
Requirements
- Must have one of the following:
- An Associate’s degree from an accredited institution.
- Evidence of completion of two years of post-high school study.
- A passing score on the District’s assessment of reading, writing, and math skills.
- Must possess a high school diploma or G.E.D.
- Must have a general knowledge of English language arts and mathematics.
- Must pass a criminal background check.
Working Conditions
The Educational Assistant II works primarily in classrooms but also in other areas of the school campus and grounds. The role requires:
- Standing, walking, and sitting for long periods.
- Observing multiple students across large and small spaces.
- Attending to individual student needs while ensuring others are supervised.
- Physical tasks such as pushing, pulling, lifting, bending, kneeling, and reaching.
- Dexterity to operate standard classroom equipment.
- Sufficient eyesight to read materials and monitor student activity.
- Outdoor supervision of students in various weather conditions.
- Potential exposure to inclement weather, allergens, blood-borne pathogens, dirt, odors, dust, extreme temperatures, and erratic student behavior.
Pay
$17.85 – $21.46 per hour, depending on approved experience.
