Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Texas Education Agency paraprofessional educational aide certificate
- Experience working with children
- Ability to get along with others and follow directions while working independently
- Computer/typing skills or willingness to learn
Major Duties
- Supervises small group student activities
- Conducts one-on-one instructional activities
- Performs clerical (instructional) activities for the classroom teacher
- Distributes and collects instructional material
- Aids in classroom management and supervision
- Set up and assist with supervision of listening stations and/or centers
- Performs other duties as assigned
Additional Requirements
- Ability to work in variable environmental conditions
- Possible travel by car, van or bus
- Working alone or with others
- Physical ability to do lifting of 10 lbs. or more
- Ability to assist students with toileting and personal hygiene, feeding, mobility, positioning and seizure activity
- Knowledge of or ability to learn behavior management intervention techniques
- The ability to maintain emotional control under stress
- The ability to understand and maintain confidentiality
- The ability to cope with biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases

- Ability to communicate in oral and written form in English
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in a cooperative manner with co-workers and supervisors
- Ability to follow directives from the principal, associate and assistant principal
