Education Specialist Talented and Gifted

About the role

This position provides effective leadership for staff to deliver appropriate differentiated services to gifted students K-12. The role coordinates the development of a challenging curriculum and an effective delivery system, including strategies and techniques that allow for individual differences in learning styles. It also supports principals in enhancing the gifted education program in their schools, implements the Henrico Plan for the Education of Gifted Students, and coordinates the Gifted Young Scholar Academy.

Responsibilities

• Facilitates the development and implementation of Henrico County's Local Plan for the Education of the Gifted.
• Oversees the county-wide gifted identification/placement process.
• Collaborates with principals on staff selection and training for teachers in the gifted complement.
• Coordinates Talent Development Programs, enrichment programs, zone center programs, and middle school resource programs.
• Conducts formal and informal observations of zone center and GYSA classroom teachers.
• Collaborates with the departments of Teaching and Learning and Exceptional Education to develop curriculum and differentiated instruction K-12.
• Provides support and direction for gifted education development and services in each school.
• Develops parent and community support and resources for gifted education programs.
• Coordinates the high school application processes for Maggie L. Walker Governor's School for Government & International Studies, and the Summer Residential Governors Schools Academic, Mentorship, and Visual & Performing Arts Programs.
• Collaborates with the Director of Career and Technical Education on the application process for the Regional Governor's School for Career and Technical Advancement.
• Analyzes district data, school data, and individual student data to ensure program coherence and direction.
• Serves as a resource to principals and teachers regarding best practice in Gifted instruction.
• Prepares and monitors the program's budget.
• Supervises the ordering, inventory and distribution of materials and equipment for the Gifted program.
• Serves on committees as assigned.
• Fosters student ability to combine knowledge, experience, and critical observations.

Requirements

• Master's degree and postgraduate professional certificate with endorsement in administration and supervision; an add-on endorsement in gifted education is preferred.
• Five years experience in teaching and/or supervision at the elementary level.
• Ability to communicate, monitor staff, and develop teacher and program effectiveness.

Pay
