Education Specialist, Sim Center

About the role

The Simulation Education Specialist is responsible for assessing, planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating educational activities for all levels of healthcare providers throughout the WakeMed system, across all facilities, as a systemwide provider of continuing education.

This role involves collaboration with the department Manager, peers, and subject matter experts to facilitate and provide education to organizational, regional, and national partners. The specialist supports professional growth and development of staff and meets system needs for initial and continuing education programs to promote ongoing competency and quality patient care.

The specialist applies theoretical principles of adult learning and the educational process to meet organizational, divisional, and unit-based goals, particularly related to patient outcomes. They act as a resource to hospital staff to ensure adherence to professional standards, regulatory agency requirements, N.C. Board of Nursing mandates, organizational and departmental policies/procedures, and program accreditation standards.

In collaboration with the Manager, the specialist plans, maintains, and operates the WakeMed Medical Simulation Center, developing curricula, staffing the center, and maintaining equipment integrity for simulated medical education.

Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, develop, implement, and evaluate educational activities for healthcare providers at all levels.
• Collaborate with the department Manager, peers, and subject matter experts to facilitate education for organizational, regional, and national partners.
• Support professional growth and development of staff to meet system needs for initial and continuing education programs.
• Apply theoretical principles of adult learning to meet organizational goals related to patient outcomes.
• Act as a resource to hospital staff to ensure adherence to professional standards, regulatory requirements, and accreditation standards.
• Plan, maintain, and operate the WakeMed Medical Simulation Center, including developing curricula and maintaining equipment.

Requirements

• Licensure as a Paramedic, Respiratory Therapist, Public Safety professional, Social Worker, or Mental Health Counselor (Required).
• Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare (Required).
• Master’s Degree in Healthcare (Preferred).
• 3 years of experience in education, teaching, and facilitation of learning (Required).
• Experience in medical simulation (Preferred).
