Education Program Consultant (Social Studies)

Responsibilities

• Engage in collaborative work with other team members.
• Participate in regular meetings.
• Attend trainings and review materials.
• Participate in meetings and work with other state agencies.
• Establish common, evidence-based information and resources related to aligning curriculum, instruction, and assessment to Iowa's social studies standards.
• Support scaling and implementation of standards-aligned, evidence-based practices in social studies across the state.
• Provide guidance, within the Department's vision and structures, related to implementation of Iowa's social studies standards.
• Stay current on both federal and state requirements related to social studies.
• Communicate with internal and external Iowa stakeholders.
• Lead Testing in School and Child Care Program under the EPA Water Infrastructure for the Nation (WIIN) Grant.

Requirements

• Experience utilizing Microsoft Suite.
• Experience teaching social studies and/or related fields.
• Experience in instructional design and professional development.
• Experience providing technical assistance and professional learning to educators.
• Experience interpreting and implementing state or federal education law.

Qualifications

• Desirable qualifications include experience utilizing Microsoft Suite, teaching social studies and/or related fields, instructional design and professional development, providing technical assistance and professional learning to educators, interpreting and implementing state or federal education law, and experience in a major technical program area housed within the Iowa Department of Education.
