As an Education Mentor, you will perform a variety of para-professional tasks related to the care of individuals served by Damar in the public-school system, including participation in activities that promote the development of appropriate daily living, self-help, and social skills.
Responsibilities
- Ensures client is punctual to class by meeting client at designated area and time before school starts.
- Remains awake and engaged at all times – competently supervising and monitoring the clients. Never leaves clients unattended unless permitted for periods of time based on a client’s Individual Education Plan.
- Effectively responds to and manages crisis situations, which may include client physical aggression, utilizing prescribed verbal intervention or physical management techniques.
- Participates in programs designed to aid in the habilitation, training, and treatments of clients.
- Consistently implements Individual Education Plan and behavior management plans to reduce client’s maladaptive behaviors, promote appropriate social behaviors, and maximize human potential of each client served.
Requirements
- Minimum age of 18 per licensure requirements.
- Formal proof of a high school diploma or GED.
- Valid Indiana driver’s license and driving record that meets eligibility requirements of Damar’s insurance carrier (for all positions requiring driving).
- No felony convictions, substantiated charges of neglect, or other disqualifying criminal convictions.
- Successfully complete a pre-employment physical.
- Favorably meet and maintain Damar’s background screening.
