Education Department - Health Educator / Teacher

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated Health Educator - Teacher Itinerant for the Blind/Visually Impaired within our Special Education Department. This role is crucial in providing quality education and support to students with sensory impairments.

Responsibilities

• Provide quality instruction to students.
• Prepare daily lesson plans.
• Evaluate students' skills to determine the best program of learning.
• Write and implement Individual Education Plans (IEP).
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Skills and Knowledge

• Familiarity with Arizona Academic Standards.
• Knowledge of current educational and diagnostic practices for sensory-impaired students.
• Competency in lesson plan and Individual Education Plan development.
• Understanding of student evaluation practices.
• Awareness of policies, procedures, and programs within the immediate work unit.
• Understanding principles and practices of administration and management.
• Knowledge of agency or program rules, regulations, and operating procedures.
• Proficiency in behavior management.
• Skills in planning, organization, and program development.

Abilities

• Communicate effectively with students, staff, and the public.
• Instruct students to retain information.
• Complete student evaluations.
• Develop lesson plans.
• Work cooperatively in teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Education with coursework specific to sensory impairments.
• Open to entry-level candidates.
• Possession of a valid teaching certificate with appropriate endorsements. (Teacher O&M requires ACVREP Certification in lieu of ADE certification.)
• Secondary teaching positions must meet coursework requirements as specified by the Department of Education.
• Ability to pass FBI and State background checks.
• Willingness to travel to various locations and districts in the surrounding areas.
