About the role

This full-time Program Specialist I position in the Department of Public Works, Bureau of Utility Operations manages several different programs for the Bureau, including school-based and community-based educational programs, outreach events planning and participation, career fairs, and training.

Responsibilities

  • Develop written and electronic outreach materials, conduct presentations, and promote careers in Utility Operations.
  • Coordinate and manage special projects, develop training courses, and provide classroom instruction.
  • Produce content for websites, social media pages, and internal newsletters; manage social media accounts and determine innovative ways to reach the public.
  • Proactively communicate with citizens using various methods and track the success of outreach efforts with regular reporting.
  • Attend internal and public meetings and events during and after normal business hours, representing the Bureau of Utility Operations.
  • Prepare and maintain necessary records and reports, contact vendors on price and parts availability, and track and prepare monthly purchasing statements.
  • Work closely with internal teams to align outreach efforts with organizational goals and objectives.
  • Gather information, conduct internal interviews, take pictures, and select graphics for outreach materials.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • One (1) or more years of experience in a program/specialization area directly related to public relations, educational outreach, and training.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team with a positive and collaborative attitude.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Attend public meetings and events after working hours and on weekends as required.

  • Experience supporting educational outreach programs.
  • Experience supporting workforce development training programs.
