Education Abroad Advisor & Program Manager

This position is with the International Studies Office (ISO), a division of UVA Global, which contributes to UVA's global mission through activities, programs, and services designed to support the development of a globally aware education and research environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide advising, referral, and resources for UVA students interested in education abroad, including goal setting, selecting programs, identifying sources of funding, building cross-cultural awareness, and mitigation of risks.
  • Maintain expertise in Higher Education systems of an assigned region of the world and oversee a portfolio of programs and exchanges in the region.
  • Within the assigned region and portfolio:
    • Assist in developing and promoting UVA study abroad programs.
    • Oversee program admissions, administer program enrollment, and ensure students' compliance with registration and transfer credit requirements.
    • Provide pre-departure guidance, including visa support where applicable.
    • Maintain relationships with assigned schools, departments, and administrative offices of the University.
  • Additional responsibilities to support the work of UVA Education Abroad as assigned.

The Education Abroad Advisor & Program Manager will report to the Associate Director for Education Abroad.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • 3+ years of relevant professional experience required, to include student advising or program coordination.
  • Knowledge of principles and issues of study abroad advising.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including intercultural and interpersonal communication.
  • Ability to interact with study abroad program representatives, colleagues in other offices, faculty, and students in a highly professional manner with an understanding of protocol and confidentiality.
  • Strong organizational, administrative, and computer/digital skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience studying or living abroad.
  • At least four years of student advising or program coordination experience.
  • An MA degree in a relevant field (International Education, Intercultural Relations).
  • Experience with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Experience working with student information systems, education abroad platforms such as Terra Dotta (TDS), and graphic design platforms such as Canva.
  • Knowledge of NAFSA: Association of International Educators professional ethics and competencies.
  • Knowledge of the Forum on Education Abroad Standards of Good Practice.

Physical Demands

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings and programs.

Pay

The hiring range is $57,000-$60,000, commensurate with education and experience.
