Reports to: Tool Room Supervisor | Department: Faulkner Tool Manufacturing
About the role
The EDM Operator sets up, programs, operates, and maintains EDM machines to produce components from 3D models or drawings while upholding HellermannTyton’s Quality and EHS certifications. This role supports all corporate policies, procedures, work instructions, and required documentation.
Responsibilities
- Set up parts, create programs using Mastercam software, and set up electrodes to operate sinker and wire EDM machines.
- Create programs to finish core and cavity detail as discussed during job meetings.
- Operate supporting equipment, including surface grinders, hole poppers, and cutoff saws.
- Perform weekly required machine maintenance.
- Maximize machine utilization and program for unattended operation during off-shift run time.
- Inspect machined electrodes using precision measuring equipment or interpret CMM reports.
- File documents and programs in the appropriate file storage system.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years operating and programming EDM machines for plastic injection molds.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- CAM programming software experience, preferably Mastercam.
- Skilled use of precision measuring equipment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft software.
- Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs.
Key Competencies
- Ability to create wire EDM programs using Mastercam software.
- Ability to set up machines to hold tolerances of +/- .0005”.
- Knowledge of plastic injection molds and associated tolerances.
- Proficiency in archiving programs under correct job folders.
- Understanding of best practices for creating wire and sinker EDM programs for efficient material removal.
