Editorial Manager, Exam Services
Scope Summary
The Editorial Manager, Exam Development is a dynamic and collaborative role. This role will manage editorial workflow, oversee style guide and style-related decisions, manage editorial team, and perform editing of exam items and departmental documents.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Manage editorial workflow, including:
- Editorial schedule for all Exam Development projects, based on priorities and internal deadlines (in conjunction with Director, Exam Development)
- Providing QC and editorial assignments to editors, with deadlines
- Maintaining editorial workload
- Addressing issues that arise during the editorial/QC process
- Suggesting and implementing updates to the editorial process to improve efficiency and quality; includes soliciting feedback and ideas from team members
Manage editorial team members, including 1:1 meetings, performance evaluations, and coaching/guidance as needed.
Edit, proofread, and quality-review exam items and related materials, ensuring accuracy through research and fact-checking while implementing and maintaining editorial standards for readability, consistency, terminology, grammar, and formatting.
Perform editing of exam items and associated documents.
Conduct initial and/or final editorial review of examinations and/or item banks to verify adherence to style guidelines.
Edit proposals and contracts for grammar, spelling, punctuation, consistency, style, and clarity.
QC1: Monitor the technical quality of newly developed items and provide immediate feedback to item writers.
During in-person and virtual workshops, facilitate item review sessions and review items with SMEs to resolve issues as needed.
Skills and Qualifications
- Proficiency in Microsoft office products
- Advanced writing and communication skills, both verbal and written
- Team management skills
- Ability to manage, organize, and complete multiple ongoing projects and tasks
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
- Uphold confidentiality, especially related to SME data, information and feedback
- Proficiency in the English language
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
- Attention to detail and organizational skills are essential to the position
- Willingness and ability to learn new skills/cross-train with other team members
Education and/or Experience
- Preferred degree but not required for the role
- 5+ years of direct experience in related fields (editorial, management)
