Editorial Assistant, Flatiron
About the role
Flatiron Books, an imprint of Macmillan Publishing Group, seeks an Editorial Assistant to support two nonfiction editors. Ideal candidates are highly organized, self-starters with a passion for narrative and practical nonfiction.
Responsibilities
- Aid with manuscript management, including formatting for copyediting, creating art logs, and tracking production deadlines
- Communicate updates, answer questions, and follow-up with authors, agents, team members from various departments, and other stakeholders
- Review and provide thoughtful feedback on submissions
- Conduct research for comparative titles, prepare P&Ls, and gather materials for title acquisitions
- Draft title information sheets, catalog copy, and jacket copy
- Perform general administrative tasks such as setting up meetings, drafting contract requests, and maintaining materials flow between editorial and other departments
Requirements
- The ability to work independently, manage multiple deadlines, and prioritize effectively
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Superb organizational skills, time management, and attention to detail
- A strong interest in nonfiction books and a curiosity about a wide range of subjects
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Google Workspace
- Some work experience in book publishing is preferred, but alternative office experience is welcome
Qualifications
- Minimum high school diploma or GED
Benefits
Macmillan Publishers offers a competitive salary of $50,000. This role is remote but based in New York, NY at 120 Broadway. Employment is subject to New York State tax withholding under applicable regulations.
