About the role
The Washington Post is seeking a collaborative and deadline-driven assistant editor for its News Hub through October 31. This contract role is an opportunity to work with a team of breaking news reporters and coverage leaders to ensure we are urgent and indispensable on the most important stories of the day.
Responsibilities
- Edit breaking news stories and quick-turn features, in collaboration with other editors and writers.
- Collaborate with across teams on quick-turn coverage of U.S. and world news.
- Deliver constructive feedback under tight deadlines.
- Analyze audience data and communicate actionable insights to writers and editors.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience as a journalist covering deadline-driven news.
- Self-starter with the ability to work in a constantly changing environment.
- Exceptional communication and organizational skills.
Qualifications
- Previous experience as an editor is not required.

Pay
This contract position pays between $6,500 and $7,500 per month, depending on individual skills, experience and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements and the duration of the contract assignment.
