Responsibilities

  • Thrives under unrelenting deadline pressure.
  • Supervises on-air product, including editorial content.
  • Selects stories for coverage and manages the editorial product in conjunction with News managers.
  • Oversees line-up of newscasts and makes changes as necessary.
  • Covers assignments and coordinates breaking news/weather coverage.
  • Extensively writes under deadline pressure.
  • Updates copy throughout shift.
  • Reads and understands complex material and turns it into easy-to-understand copy.
  • Follows breaking news and updates source copy.
  • Works with a team of seasoned professionals.
  • Has strong ability to incorporate audio into written stories.
  • Has a working knowledge of legal guidelines, FCC rules, etc. and how they apply to your writing.

Qualifications

  • Must be able to work in one of the most fast-paced radio newsrooms under the most demanding deadlines anywhere.
  • Must have the ability to assign and write for major breaking news stories, tragedies, lighter stories, celebrities, and thrive in an environment where your work is subject to intense public scrutiny.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of major market experience as a broadcast producer/writer.
  • A valid driver’s license, satisfactory completion of a motor vehicle record check, and proof of insurance if the position requires use of applicant's own vehicle, is required.

Pay & Benefits

The anticipated starting salary range for New York City-based individuals expressing interest in this position is $42.61/hr-$53.36/hr. Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities and location of the applicant, as well as internal and external equity.
