About the role

Under close supervision, provides technical support for physicians and nurses in the Emergency Department.

Responsibilities

  • Perform phlebotomy.
  • Perform 12 lead EKGs.
  • Transport patients to other departments.
  • Place patients on cardiac and vital sign monitor.
  • Perform Point of Care Testing.
  • Obtain lab specimens and document all care/procedures provided.
  • Clean equipment and workspace.
  • Order/stock department supplies.
  • Clerical unit tasks as required/requested.
  • Demonstrate positive customer service relations.
  • Routinely participate in QI projects and encourage department to continuously improve.
  • Assist co-workers as needed/requested.
  • Support the Medical Center’s Mission/Vision/Philosophy positively.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
  • Perform other essential duties as assigned.

Shift Requirements

3, 12-hour shifts per week. 6:00 p.m. - 6:00 a.m.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Currently licensed as a Patient Care Technician (CPCT-A), Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) in the state of Missouri.
  • Minimum of six (6) months direct patient care experience preferred.
  • This individual should be knowledgeable regarding growth and development and assessing the physical and psychological needs of patients in the following stages of life: neonatal, infant, pediatric, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS required.
  • Must be self-motivated and have the ability to work within the established policies, procedures and practices prescribed by the hospital/clinic.

Physical/Mental Requirements

  • Must be able to sit and stand, intermittent 8 to 10 hours a day.
  • Must be able to use standard office equipment, including the telephone and computer keyboard.
  • Continuously works under pressure of near 100% accuracy while meeting inflexible deadlines.
  • Continuously utilizes manual/bi-manual dexterity, near vision, speech, and hearing.
  • Frequently stands, walks, sits and utilizes eye/hand coordination and color definition.
  • Occasionally reaches above shoulder, regularly required to lift and/or carry up to 35 lbs.
  • Occasionally walks on uneven surfaces.
