Responsibilities

  • Responds to requests for patient care assistance as delegated by the Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Maintains skill level to perform patient care tasks, to include, intravenous catheter insertion and medication administration, as delegated by the RN.
  • Maintains skill level to administer medications as delegated by the RN.
  • Collections and processes laboratory specimens.
  • Maintains department supplies and equipment.
  • Affords assistance with clerical duties.
  • Performs job specific requirements and other duties as assigned.
  • Serves as a preceptor for new employees.

Requirements

  • Education: High school or equivalent (GED).
  • Certification, Registration & Licensure: Required National Registry Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (EMT-B) or National Registry Emergency Medical Technician-Advanced (EMT-A) or Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA), Basic Life Support - American Heart Association.
  • Experience: One year of prior experience as an EMT or LNA.
  • Qualities: Evidence of experience working effectively and positively with patients, care providers, and the multi-disciplinary team. Evidence of the ability to perform as a member of a team.

Qualifications

Physical and Work Requirements: The Dictionary of Occupational Titles Material Handling Classification is MEDIUM. The employee must regularly lift, carry or push/pull up to 10 pounds, frequently lift, carry or push/pull up to 10 - 25 pounds, and occasionally lift, carry or push/pull up to 20 - 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to hear. The employee is frequently required to bend, speak, squat, stand, and walk. The employee is occasionally required to do repetitive motion, kneel, perform activities that require fine motor skills, reach, and sit. Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision, depth perception, far vision, near vision, and peripheral vision. The employee is occasionally exposed to airborne pathogens, bloodborne pathogens, bodily fluids, and moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
