About the role

The Emergency Department welcomes patients and visitors and provides routine patient care under the direction of nurses and physicians.

Responsibilities

• Greets patients and visitors entering the Emergency Department.
• Performs routine tests such as phlebotomy, blood glucose monitoring, and EKGs.
• Performs IV insertion under the direction and guidance of the physician.
• Provides patient care including assisting with patient procedures and activities of daily living.
• Auxiliaries physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies.
• Transports stable patients on cardiac monitors to inpatient units.
• Provides instruction to patients and families under the direction of the RN.
• Obtains routine vital signs including temperature/pulse/respiratory/rate (TPR), blood pressure (BP), oxygen saturate (02 STAT).
• Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Licensure as required by state where services are being provided: WV: Paramedic through West Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services.
• Nationally registered as required by state board: WV: Paramedic through National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (Unless state license is State License Only (SLO)).
• CPR certification.
• ACLS certification.
• PALS certification.
• AVADE training.
• One (1) year of pre-hospital/emergency medical services experience.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

Skills and Abilities

• Effective communication with staff and patients.
• Adaptability to changing environments.

Physical Requirements

• Heavy/Hard Work: Strength and/or stamina, lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing, and walking.

Working Environment

• Cognizant of environmental factors, infection control issues and maintains a safe environment.
