Responsibilities
- Assist with patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
- Support toileting needs, including bedpans, commodes, urinals, and incontinence care.
- Utilize proper body mechanics for patient transfers and ambulation.
- Perform vital signs and phlebotomy duties.
- Contribute to a collaborative, inclusive, and diverse team culture focused on patient and community success.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, visitors, and staff both orally and in writing.
- Previous experience as a Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, or similar role.
- Completion of a phlebotomy course with at least 120 hours of clinical rotation in a medical setting, or 75 hours of clinical rotation with one year of healthcare experience, or five years of continuous phlebotomy experience, or graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant Program.
- National Phlebotomy Certification or National Medical Assistant certification required within 6 months of hire.
- Current AHA – BLS Healthcare Provider Certification (ongoing).
- Successful completion of the hospital’s orientation program, including classroom and clinical components.
- Must attend hospital crisis training program within 3 months of hire or transfer and annually thereafter.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged, extensive, or considerable standing and walking.
- Lifting, positioning, pushing, and/or transferring patients.
- Frequent reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching.
- Visual acuity and color discrimination.
- Effective communication and comprehension skills.
- Manual dexterity and hand-to-eye coordination.
- Ability to anticipate unexpected patient movements.
- Capable of working varied hours, including evenings or weekends as needed.
- Ability to lift up to 10 lbs.
Working Conditions
- Works in a clean, well-lighted, heated, or ventilated facility with no routine exposure to hazards.
- Demonstrates full anatomical range of motion to accomplish tasks.
- Visual and aural acuity, as well as finger and hand dexterity to operate equipment.
- Ability to withstand long periods of sitting, standing, and constant walking.
- Mental demands include fostering collaborative relationships, working well under pressure, organizing and synthesizing information, prioritizing tasks, critical thinking, analytical skills, flexibility, and multitasking.
- Detailed attention to work in an environment with uncontrollable interruptions.
- Sensitivity to customer needs and expectations.
- May require irregular hours, including evenings or weekends, for operational or community events.
Pay
The hourly range for this role is $29.06 - $36.64. This range complies with New York State law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements and does not include bonuses, incentive pay, differential pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits. Compensation is determined based on factors such as location, specialty, service line, years of relevant experience, education, credentials, negotiated contracts, budget, and internal equity.
