Economic Service Worker
About the role
We are seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented individual to join our Economic Services team at the Bureau for Family Assistance (BFA) as an Economic Service Worker.
Responsibilities
- Processing and tracking applications for individuals requesting economic assistance through Bureau programs.
- Conducting thorough telephone and face-to-face interviews with clients to gather personal, financial, and social information to determine program benefits eligibility.
- Completing reviews and determining eligibility for services such as SNAP, Medicaid, Emergency Assistance/LIEAP, and School Clothing Vouchers.
- Keeping an up-to-date client caseload while ensuring timely and accurate case processing and tracking.
- Monitoring and responding to communications from clients, client services, supervisors, program managers, and upper management, including checking and responding to emails and phone calls.
- Referring clients to additional support services and agencies as needed.
- Maintaining current knowledge of policy updates and program changes.
- Entering and managing client data in appropriate systems and dashboards.
- Performing other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Training: Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
- Substitution: Any combination of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience providing direct client services such as interviewing clients, customers or the public, and evaluating the data against established standards and guidelines may substitute for the required training on a year-for-year basis.
- OR Full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience performing customer service, telemarketing, retail or clerical work may substitute for the required training on a year-for-year basis.
- OR Successful completion of college coursework from a regionally accredited college or university may substitute for the required training on a year-for-year basis. Every thirty (30) credit hours of education will equal one (1) year of training.
- OR Experience in Economic Services work requiring program eligibility decisions may substitute for the required training at the rate of one (1) year of experience will equal (2) years of training.
- A valid driver's license may be required.
Qualifications
This position directly supports the mission of the Bureau to supply economic assistance through departmental programs by overseeing the execution of essential services and managing the delivery of state and federal economic assistance programs such as SNAP, Medicaid, and Emergency Assistance/LIEAP. Economic Service Workers play a central role within the Bureau by processing applications, determining eligibility, and maintaining caseloads for a variety of economic assistance programs. Economic Service Workers serve as a key point of contact for clients to ensure provision of timely, accurate, and compassionate services and resources.
Skills
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team, attention to detail, and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications are essential.

Pay
The salary range for this position is $45,000 - $60,000 annually.
Schedule
The schedule for this position is typically Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, with some evening and weekend work as needed.
