Summary of Duties and Responsibilities
- Classroom Responsibilities:
- Substitutes are called to cover the duties of regular preschool, infant/toddler, and child care teachers.
- Coverage includes pre-arranged, medical, post-natal, or emergency situations.
- Duties vary based on classroom needs, but generally include:
- Following established lesson plans for daily routines and activities.
- Teamwork with co-teacher to implement activities, routines, and operations.
- Ensuring appropriate experiences for physical, social-emotional, and cognitive development.
- Greeting and interacting with families, including releasing children.
- Making changes to meet children's interests and development.
- Participating in classroom clean-up, toy sanitization, and laundry.
- Documenting child progress or concerns on anecdotal records.
- Maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Promoting quality early childhood philosophy.
- Working professionally with all staff members.
- Kitchen and Maintenance Duties:
- Occasionally covers kitchen or janitorial duties.
- All substitutes receive cross-training for each area.
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum of High School Diploma or GED.
- Support the Coeur d’Alene Tribe’s vision, mission, and core values per CdA Resolution 015(2020).
- Comply with Health policies, including annual flu shot.
- Past experience working with young children, birth through age 6.
- Able and willing to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Pediatric CPR/First Aid certification.
- Initial physical exam and TB screening/test, annual TB screening/test.
- Flexible and on-call schedule, including possible evening hours.
- Follow all rules, policies, standards, and procedures of the Coeur d’Alene Tribe and Head Start/Early Head Start program.
- Reliable transportation.
- Pass local, state, and federal background checks.
- At least two letters of reference from past employers, validating a positive work history, and demonstrating reliability.
Desired Qualifications
- Child Development Associate certificate (CDA).
- Associate or Bachelors’ degree in early childhood development or closely related field.
- One or more years classroom/program experience working with children birth through age 6.
- Demonstrated ability to plan and implement appropriate learning activities for children and ability to plan and follow-through on projects.
