About the role
Performs and records ultrasound diagnostic tests to obtain information about internal organs, fluid accumulations, masses or development of fetuses for use in diagnosis of disease, study of malfunction of organs, prenatal examination of fetus and placenta, etc. under general supervision and following established policies and procedures. Ensures quality of ultrasound test and records results.
Requirements
- Knowledge of anatomy and physiology at a level normally acquired through completion of two years post high school training in an allied health science such as nursing or radiologic technology and knowledge of ultrasound techniques and procedures as generally acquired through six months to one year related training.
- Approximately three to six months' on-the-job training necessary to acquire efficiency in operating sonographic equipment, learn hospital and departmental policies and procedures, and the like.
- Interpersonal skills necessary in order to explain procedures to patients and allay apprehensions and to discuss test results with physicians.
- Analytical skills necessary to effectively detect pathologies based on knowledge of physiological cause and effect of diseases.
- Understand radiation safety procedures.
- Echocardiogram registry REQUIRED.
