About the role

Under general supervision, produces images and/or diagnostic tests of designated anatomical areas as requested in order to provide the Radiologists/Cardiologist with diagnostic information.

Responsibilities

  • Review procedure requisitions for appropriateness, document order completion in Hospital Information System.
  • Document pertinent patient information according to department policies, including procedure-specific forms and history assessment.
  • Provide explanation of procedure, discharge information, and expectations of test completion and availability of results.
  • Operate imaging equipment according to established procedures (Ultrasound units and non-invasive physiologic units).
  • Prepare images for interpretation by completing required printing and post-processing protocols for appropriate archive retention.
  • Utilize appropriate immobilization and safety techniques to protect patients from safety risks.
  • Meet the individual physical and mental needs of patients during procedures, including comfort, privacy, confidentiality, and timely communication.
  • Perform equipment calibrations and quality control testing.
  • Maintain work area and equipment by proper use, routine cleaning, and ensuring there are adequate supplies.
  • Maintain skills and knowledge to provide care appropriate to the age and ability of each patient.
  • Assist patients, family members, physicians, visitors, and employees in a friendly, cooperative manner.
  • Follow infection control procedures at all times.
  • Follow hospital policies for safety and comply with specific department responsibilities during fire drills or alarms.
  • Perform daily inspection of disinfection system in accordance with department policy.
  • Responsible for prompt reporting of any malfunction of equipment to supervisors.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be registered or registry eligible by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers in Echo and a registered RVT.
