About the role

The Echo Technician (Cardiac Rehab) provides patient care and performs special procedures related to cardiac testing for diagnosing heart disease and disorders. They operate echocardiology equipment and conduct echocardiographic examinations to monitor the movement, sound, and activity of the heart, annotate patient records, maintain supplies, and liaise with biomedical engineering staff for equipment maintenance and repair.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares patients for echocardiography testing, including attachment of EKG and skin prep according to protocol.
  • Operates echocardiography equipment to record ultrasound images of the heart walls, valves, and support structures.
  • Records all test results to diagnose structure and valve abnormalities, plural and pericardial effusions.
  • Develops, cuts, and mounts echocardiography results.
  • Conducts stress tests using accepted procedures, monitors results, and records findings.
  • Analyzes echocardiograms, recognizes abnormalities, and reports them to the cardiologist.
  • Monitors equipment during procedures and ensures an adequate supply of laboratory materials.
  • Informs biomedical engineering staff of equipment failures and follows up on maintenance and repairs.
  • Attends meetings, conferences, and seminars as required.
  • Scans items in and out of the automated inventory management system.
  • Completes procedural reports using the DMS reporting system, entering details per procedure and physician preference.
  • Assists in the removal of procedural sheaths for patients after procedures according to protocol.
  • Instructs and communicates with the patient's family or representatives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Clinical experience performing transthoracic echocardiograms and transesophageal echocardiograms.
  • RDCS or RCS registration required; BLS certification required.
  • Must maintain associated Continuing Medical Education credits.
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Must be able to provide weekend/holiday call as scheduled, if applicable.
  • Graduate of a CAAHEP-accredited cardiovascular sonography program.
