ECD Full Authority Lateral Officer ($4,000 Hiring Incentive)

Under the general supervision of a Sergeant, an Officer focuses on public safety by protecting life, property, and the state transportation infrastructure, ensuring the safe and efficient movement of commercial traffic through the State of Arizona. Enforces all state and federal laws and regulations relative to commercial vehicle enforcement and regulatory compliance. Completes work assignments and training in a timely manner, exercises good decision-making, makes arrests when necessary, testifies in court, prepares clear and concise written reports, and promotes compliance with all relevant laws and regulations. Background check and in-state/out-of-state travel are required.

Responsibilities

• Screen commercial driver/vehicle credentials, weigh commercial vehicles, and perform enhanced vehicle identity inspections.
• Ensure registration compliance and conduct commercial vehicle safety inspections.
• Perform traffic stops on commercial vehicles and enforce all pertinent laws, rules, and regulations.
• Issue applicable permits, route over-dimensional loads, and collect appropriate fees and taxes.
• Inspect vehicles, dealer, and salvage yard operations for compliance with State title and registration requirements.
• Take appropriate enforcement action as authorized by state and federal motor vehicle and operator laws.

  • Search and seizure, rules of evidence, and custody of prisoners.
  • Defensive tactics, First Aid, and CPR.

  • Motor Vehicle Laws, rules, and regulations.

  • Interpreting relevant State and Federal motor vehicle laws, rules, and regulations.

Qualifications

• Completion of basic and advanced training demonstrating substantial comparability to the Arizona basic course.
• Previous service as a certified peace officer in Arizona, another state, or a federal agency, meeting all minimum qualifications for certification as an Arizona Peace Officer.
• Selective preference: 1 year of law enforcement experience.
