Our Enforcement and Compliance division offers roles from customer support to dispatching, all the way to senior management.

Salary

$57,301.32 - $69,807.26

Responsibilities

• Screen commercial driver/vehicle credentials, weigh commercial vehicles, perform enhanced vehicle identity inspections, registration compliance, and commercial vehicle safety inspections.
• Conduct traffic stops on commercial vehicles and enforce all pertinent laws, rules, and regulations.
• Issue applicable permits, route over-dimensional loads, and collect appropriate fees and taxes.
• Take appropriate enforcement action as authorized by state and federal motor vehicle and operator laws, rules, and regulations.
• Inspect vehicles, dealer, and salvage yard operations for compliance with State title and registration requirements.
• Prepare clear and concise written reports and testify in court when required.
• Exercise judgment in determining use of force and promote compliance with all state and federal laws, rules, and regulations.

Requirements

• Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training (AZPOST) Full Authority certification.
• Weapons certified in accordance with AZPOST standards and obtain the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) certification within 6 months of hire.
• Valid Driver’s License. If driving is an essential function, must complete all required training and pass driver’s license record checks.
• Must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).
• Background check and in- and out-of-state travel required.
• Must have completed basic and advanced training demonstrating substantial comparability to the Arizona basic course.
• Must have previously served as a certified peace officer in Arizona, another state, or federal agency, meeting all minimum qualifications for certification as an Arizona Peace Officer.
• Mandatory participation in the Arizona Retirement System (ASRS).

Qualifications

• Knowledge of pertinent State and Federal motor vehicle laws, rules, and regulations.
• Knowledge of modern law enforcement methods, best practices, and procedures.
• Understanding of search and seizure, rules of evidence, and custody of prisoners.
• Knowledge of defensive tactics, First Aid, CPR, and court systems, procedures, and protocols.
• Familiarity with activity reporting, accounting procedures, and principles of report writing.
• Proficiency in Google Workspace and basic money handling.
• Skills in interpreting relevant State and Federal motor vehicle laws, rules, and regulations.
• Ability to elicit factual information, draw valid conclusions, and establish effective relationships with staff and the public.
• Experience in use and care of firearms and operating police equipment in emergency situations.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, including writing clear and concise reports.
• Problem-solving skills and good judgment.
• Ability to prepare clear reports, communicate effectively, and maintain moral standards and integrity.
• Ability to work as a team, collaborate, and make effective decisions under pressure.
• Ability to operate law enforcement computers, software, and database programs.
• Selective preference for 1 year of law enforcement experience.
