Job Details

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Affords assistance to Maintenance Mechanic, Tool & Die Maker, Tool Room Machinist, Set-up Maker, and/or Jig Maker.
  • Assists in testing equipment to check operation after repairs, changeovers, and extended downtime.
  • Assists in examining, testing, and measuring product from assigned equipment for quality specifications, using gauges and instruments.
  • Assists in preventive maintenance inspection of assigned equipment.
  • Might oil and grease equipment if needed.
  • Keeps work areas clean and orderly.
  • Responsible for conducting all works in a safe manner.
  • Might perform other duties as requested.
  • Might participate on project teams as requested.

Education and Experience

One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Reads and comprehends simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Writes simple correspondence.
  • Effectively presents information in one-on-one and small group situations.
  • Adds, subtracts, multiplies, or divides.
  • Determines the number of individual things in a unit or group.

Physical Demands

  • Frequently stands, sits, walks, or moves.
  • Frequently uses repetitive foot action.
  • Occasionally climbs or balances, stoops, kneels, crouches, or crawls.
  • Heavy lifting 100 lbs. maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects with average weight of 50 lbs.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Firm grasping - the ability to exert sufficient grip to pick-up a case of 12 oz. soft drinks or to pick-up a bowling ball. Requires approximate grip strength of 45-60 lbs. on a hand dynamometer.
  • Sufficient coordination to place and screw a small washer on a bolt, to pick-up paper clip from a desk top, or pick-up a dime off a counter top.
  • Uses hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms.
  • Work environment includes working near and/or with moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
