Earthwork Foreman

Duties and Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate daily earthwork activities including excavation, grading, trenching, pipe installation (water/sewer), backfill, and compaction.
• Read and interpret plans and specifications; verify grades, elevations, and layout using stakes, lasers, or GPS.
• Supervise and direct a crew of 3-7+ operators and laborers; assign tasks and ensure productivity and workmanship.
• Enforce safety standards, conduct daily hazard discussions, and ensure trench and equipment safety compliance.
• Coincordinate materials, trucking, and equipment to maintain workflow.
• Monitor production and adjust operations to meet schedule and budget goals.
• Track and approve crew timecards, equipment hours, and daily production progress reports.
• Provide daily progress updates and communicate issues or field changes to the Superintendent and/or PM.
• Ensure proper equipment care and report maintenance needs as needed.
• Travel to local and out-of-town projects as needed and perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Minimum of five (5) years in underground utility construction, with prior supervisory experience
• Current OSHA 30-hour certification
• Can safely lift up to 60 pounds, climb ladders, stairs, and climb out of ditches
• Proficiency in operating heavy equipment (excavators, loaders) and reading technical drawings.
• Must wear proper protective equipment at all times

Knowledge and Skills

• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Ability to read grading plans, blueprints, and specifications
• Experience with grade checking using GPS, lasers, and cut sheets
• Working knowledge of hand tools and equipment used in commercial construction
• Understanding of production rates and quantity tracking
• Detail-oriented with a focus on efficiency and quality
