Responsibilities

• Teach geology, meteorology, oceanography, and astronomy fundamentals, including plate tectonics, rock and mineral identification, weathering, erosion, atmospheric processes, and climate systems.
• Explain the rock cycle, weather patterns, ocean circulation, and Earth history through the geologic time scale, preparing students for Regents examinations and college-level geosciences.
• Break down complex topics like plate boundary interactions, weather map interpretation, and mineral identification techniques.
• Guide students in analyzing topographic maps, predicting weather from pressure systems, interpreting seismic data, and understanding watershed dynamics.
• Emphasize observational skills and evidence-based reasoning, connecting Earth Science to natural disaster preparedness, environmental conservation, and resource management.
• Adapt instruction using rock and mineral samples, weather data analysis, and interactive mapping tools to support middle and high school students.
• Identify and address common student struggles, using multiple teaching approaches to meet individual learning needs and styles.

Requirements

• Deep knowledge of Earth Science topics, including New York Regents Earth Science standards.
• Familiarity with common student challenges, such as interpreting reference tables, understanding deep time scales, and connecting atmospheric processes to climate.
• Strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
• Ability to adapt to different learning styles and student needs.
