About the Program

The Earn as You Learn (EAYL) Tech role is designed for students enrolled in an approved registered nurse (RN) or practical nurse (LPN) program. Participants assist in individualized patient care under the direction of an RN, performing clinical procedures and nonclinical support tasks within the scope of their nursing school program. This is a voluntary, unpaid learning opportunity aimed at fulfilling educational requirements and gaining hands-on experience in a healthcare setting.

The Earn as You Learn Tech works under the supervision of licensed healthcare professionals to enhance clinical skills, develop critical thinking abilities, and apply theoretical knowledge to real-life patient care scenarios.

This program is tailored for senior LPN or RN nursing students preparing for their final semester. Participants will be paid while gaining hands-on experience during their senior practicum.

Eligibility & Commitment

• Must be in the final semester of an accredited LPN or RN program (December 2026 graduation).
• Must complete their senior practicum at Mercy Hospital South (arrange placement through your school).
• Must accept a bedside nursing role at Mercy South with a minimum 6-month commitment.
• Must start applying to Graduate Nurse opportunities as soon as possible.
• Strongly encouraged to complete the position on the unit where the practicum was completed.
