About the role

The Early Years Teacher has a duty of care for all children placed in their care to safeguard and promote each child’s welfare. They will work as part of a team to ensure all legal and curriculum requirements are met in line with Inspire Montessori Schools policies and procedures.

Good communication skills are imperative, involving listening, questioning, understanding, and responding to what is being communicated by children and those caring for them. As part of a team, they will have a clear understanding of their role and the roles of other team members, sharing information in a timely manner to ensure the safety and well-being of all children within the nursery.

A good knowledge of child development is essential to ensure that all children’s individual needs are fully met. The role involves planning activities to create and develop a stimulating environment, providing high-quality childcare while maintaining a professional and positive outcome for both children and staff. This includes working closely with other staff, the Room Lead, and parents to meet each child’s needs.

Responsibilities

• Undertake training in Health and Safety as necessary, both on appointment and as required by legislative changes.
• Follow codes of safe working practices for both children and staff, complying with the Inspire Montessori Schools Health and Safety Policy.
• Report any concerns related to the well-being and safeguarding of children and staff as outlined in company policies and procedures and set by the Local Authority.
• Coordinate and carry out planning and prioritizing of activities in the room to create a stimulating environment following Montessori principles.
• Ensure full awareness of responsibilities in line with all company policies, procedures, and legislative requirements.
• Ensure the room complies with all aspects of internal company audits and address any action points.
• Deliver high-quality childcare while maintaining a professional and positive outcome for both children and staff.
• Communicate with the line manager regarding activities and progress within the room.
• Demonstrate a commitment to continued professional development for themselves and others.
• Reflect on working practices within the room to improve the quality of childcare provided.
• Attend and participate in staff meetings and training.
• Act as a key person for a designated number of children to ensure their basic and developmental needs are met.
• Ensure all children within the room are safe and secure.
• Build effective relationships with parents within the room.
• Take sufficient care of all visitors, staff, and parents to comply with legal requirements.
• Implement, coordinate, and supervise suitable activities to create a stimulating environment.
• Assist with the resolution of issues, queries, or complaints within the room to a satisfactory conclusion.
• Undertake other duties within the scope of the post as requested by the line manager.
• Ensure all areas of the nursery are serviced and maintained to the highest standards.

• Maintain high standards of hygiene by encouraging others to do the same.
• Be punctual and ensure attendance is above 80% for the regularity of the children.

As the post-holder develops, there may be changes in the emphasis of duties. Inspire Montessori Schools Ltd expects flexibility and a willingness to participate in continued professional development (CPD) where necessary.

Requirements

• Ability to work as part of a team (Essential)
• Ability to communicate with children and adults (Essential)
• Good professional attitude, including dress, conduct, flexibility, mutual respect, and a passion for working with children (Essential)
• NNEB, BTEC, NVQ Level 3 or 2, MCI Diploma, or equivalent childcare qualification (Desirable)
• Paediatric First Aid certification (Desirable)
• Food Hygiene Level 2 (Desirable)
• A wide and broad relevant childcare experience (minimum 1 year) (Desirable)
• Experience in the Private Day Nurseries Sector (Desirable)
• Good written and oral communication skills (Desirable)
