About the role
The Early Head Start Teacher supports the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis Inc.’s Head Start/Early Head Start program by planning and conducting classroom activities that provide individual developmental experiences for children.
Responsibilities
- Perform classroom teaching duties.
- Ensure the health, safety, and personal welfare of assigned children.
- Provide direction for Teacher Assistants and parent volunteers.
- Promote parent involvement in the classroom.
Requirements
- Working knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices in Early Childhood education.
- Knowledge of state and federal regulations pertaining to child abuse and neglect and childcare licensing requirements.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality at all times, including recognizing situations requiring confidentiality.
- Ability to communicate ideas and instructions orally and in writing.
- Ability to organize and direct classroom activities.
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff, children, and parents.
- Minimum of a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or comparable credential with a focus on infant and toddler development.
- AA Degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development preferred.
- Must successfully obtain Red Cross First Aid and CPR certification and Safe Food Handlers certificate, with updates as required.
- Possess a valid driver’s license.
- Per program policies, a health exam, clear tuberculosis screen, Hepatitis A vaccination, and background check are required for hire.
