Early Head Start Teacher

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Provides services to toddlers including physical caregiving, developmental assessments, and implementing age-appropriate curricula.
  • Serves as the primary teacher for children and ensures safe and healthy learning environments and individualized learning activities for children.
  • May also be designated as a Center Assistant, assigned to classrooms as needed to provide continuity of care for required coverage during staff breaks, staff planning, and full-day operations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Works well independently and as part of a team.
  • Works well with individuals of all cultures and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to monitor and prioritize workload and meet strict deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Able to regularly lift and carry toddlers who may range in weight up to 45 pounds.
  • Able to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, sit, and rise from the floor.
  • Able to reach with hands/arms and use hands to manipulate, handle, and feel objects.

Educational Requirements

  • Infant/Toddler Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or equivalent college coursework.

Background Check/Drug Screen

Required.

Schedule

  • 8-hour shift, Monday-Friday.

Qualifications

  • “Disabled veteran” is one of the following:
  • a veteran of the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service who is entitled to compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to compensation) under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs;
  • a person who was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability.
  • “Recently separated veteran” means any veteran during the three-year period beginning on the date of such veteran's discharge or release from active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service.
  • “Active duty wartime or campaign badge veteran” means a veteran who served on active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service during a war, or in a campaign or expedition for which a campaign badge has been authorized under the laws administered by the Department of Defense.
  • “Armed forces service medal veteran” means a veteran who, while serving on active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service, participated in a United States military operation for which an Armed Forces service medal was awarded pursuant to Executive Order 12985.
  • Background check/drug screen.
  • Reliable transportation required.
