Early Education Teacher Assistant

The Nativity School is located at 639 El Apajo Rd, Rancho Santa Fe, CA 92067. This is a full-time, non-exempt position reporting to the Principal.

About the Role

Assist the Lead Teacher with curriculum delivery and classroom management in an elementary school setting. The role includes supervising children during outdoor activities, rest time, and lunchtime, as well as preparing materials and covering teacher breaks. Additional responsibilities may include aftercare coverage and shared housekeeping duties.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Lead Teacher with school curriculum and daily classroom activities.
• Oversee outdoor activities, ensuring a safe environment for children at all times.
• Assist with rest time setup, takedown, and supervision.
• Prepare materials and supplies for daily classroom activities and set up equipment.
• Cover for teacher lunches and breaks.
• Provide support and care for children during lunchtime and rest time.
• Provide aftercare coverage if needed.
• Respect and honor the individual needs of children, including special needs, talents, and learning pace.
• Understand children in the context of their cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
• Assume an equal share of joint housekeeping responsibilities after children have departed or are under another teacher’s supervision.
• Participate in recommended training programs, conferences, and professional growth opportunities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Active, practicing Roman Catholic (preferred).
• Respects and understands a Catholic school philosophy.
• 18 years or older.
• Proof of high school diploma or GED.
• Clear criminal background check (a clear Livescan for Community Care Licensing is a condition of employment).
• Experience teaching in an elementary school classroom.
• Positive professional references and recommendations.
• Passionate about working with young children and a desire to grow as an educator.
• Team player with a positive attitude and enthusiasm for the work.

Physical Requirements

• Spend the majority of the day standing in the classroom, frequently holding objects for demonstration or instruction.
• Sit occasionally for tasks such as developing lesson plans or grading.
• Walk through the classroom and maneuver in tight spaces between desks; navigate both even and uneven surfaces.
• Kneel, squat, stoop, or bend to assist children.
• Reach at, below, or above shoulder height, sometimes requiring trunk or neck rotation.
• Assist in moving children’s desks and chairs to reconfigure the classroom layout.
• Occasionally lift and carry boxes weighing up to 25 pounds from the office to classrooms.
• Work primarily indoors but may be required to travel to off-site locations for trainings or workshops.

Pay

$20.00 - $22.00 per hour.
