Early Childhood - Teacher

About the Role

A Nurture and Nature teacher must be able and willing to work successfully in a team, coordinating the curriculum, and managing the day-to-day operational activities of the classroom. Teachers must understand children's cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development to ensure a safe and stimulating classroom environment where children are actively engaged and encouraged to succeed. Teachers must be skilled in communicating with both children and adults to meet the needs of the children, resolve parental concerns, and provide assistance as needed. The center prides itself on being a respectful, happy, well-run team where no job is too small, and the Director is always available for support and guidance.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the Lead teacher to develop weekly plans and activities.
• Implement all State Licensing guidelines, performance standards, policies, and procedures, including developmentally appropriate practices.
• Assist with the implementation of developmental, behavioral, and sensory screenings as mandated by regulations.
• Maintain records on each child’s progress and development for planning purposes.
• Assist with recording information required to document children’s growth and development.
• Help implement an IEP for children with disabilities and support the inclusion of children with special needs.
• Attend all staff meetings and in-service trainings provided by the center.
• Review the progress of each child with the Lead Teacher and develop written plans to promote growth and development.
• Help maintain the facility in a safe and satisfactory condition.
• Provide day-to-day supervision and support to other teachers, substitutes, and volunteers.
• Plan and implement the daily program of activities based on principles of child development.
• Maintain a well-organized, safe, and attractive classroom environment.
• Develop a positive relationship with each child and promote self-esteem and self-discipline.
• Observe each child daily to assess skills, interests, and needs.
• Establish a positive and professional relationship with each child’s family and share information about the child’s day.
• Help parents understand the curriculum and involve them in the daily program.
• Conduct individual parent conferences at least once a year.
• Stay current with knowledge in the field of Early Childhood Education.
• Complete and update personnel files, maintain annual professional development hours, and stay updated on CPR/FA.
• Follow the dress code and act as a friendly ambassador for the center.
• Perform other duties as required or assigned.
• Serve as a mandated reporter to the Department of Children and Family Services.

Requirements

• Be at least 18 years of age.
• Have a minimum of 9 credits in child development, early childhood, or elementary education from a regionally accredited college or university, including at least 3 credits in child growth and development (or willingness to obtain them upon hire).
• Proven ability to relate positively to young children, parents, and staff.
• Strong working knowledge of NH State Licensing Standards, including monitoring and evaluating.
• Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practice and its application to each age group.
• Demonstrated success in working as a member of a team.
• Effective and strong communication skills (oral and written).
• Ability to work successfully with community-based agencies and build partnerships.
• Demonstrated supervision skills.
• Willingness to work flexible hours to meet program needs.
• Ability to assist students with personal hygiene tasks and manage exposure to bodily fluids.
• Ability to lift 25-30 lbs.
• Ability to walk, squat/kneel, sit on the floor, see, hear, and speak with children to ensure their health and safety.
