Early Childhood - Teacher
About the role
You will coordinate the curriculum and manage the day-to-day operational activities of the classroom alongside two teaching assistants. The role requires a deep understanding of children's cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development to ensure a safe and stimulating classroom environment where children are actively engaged and encouraged to succeed. You must be skilled in communicating with both children and adults to meet children's needs, guide teacher assistants, and resolve parental concerns. This position is located at our Wausau site and begins August 17, 2026, or upon passing a background check.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and implement educational curriculum by developing classroom activities based on developmentally appropriate practices and early learning standards.
- Lead by example; encourage teaching team success through modeling and coaching.
- Plan individual and group age-appropriate activities to actively engage children and encourage social, cognitive, and emotional growth.
- Maintain frequent communications with parents through informal discussions, progress reports, and parent-teacher conferences.
- Ensure all center policies, Head Start Standards, and state regulations are met.
- Ensure a healthy classroom environment by maintaining appropriate hygiene, cleanliness, safety, and security standards for children.
- Supervise teacher assistants and classroom volunteers to ensure they follow planned activities and adhere to hygiene and safety standards.
- Maintain accurate records, forms, and files.
- Maintain a personal professional development plan to ensure continuous quality improvement.
Requirements
- Strong oral and written communication skills and basic computer skills.
- High energy and the ability to work well with others (staff, children, and parents) and foster a team environment.
- A strong understanding of child development.
- Infant/child CPR and First Aid certification or willingness to obtain these upon hire.
- Must clear a full background check and pass a health screening.
- Minimum of an associate degree in Early Childhood or a Bachelor’s degree.
- Ability to take frequent walks, use hands and fingers, handle objects, tools, or controls; may also require kneeling, bending, squatting, or crawling.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

- Experience working with preschoolers (preferred).

Schedule
Children attend 4 days a week, while teachers work 5 days a week. The additional day is used for planning, cleaning, coordinating with staff, and attending trainings.
