What You'll Do

  • Build strong relationships with children, colleagues, and families, upholding a culture of respect and inclusivity.
  • Partner with the lead teacher to create a collaborative and goal-oriented atmosphere, focusing on each child's unique strengths and abilities.
  • Assist the lead teacher in maintaining open communication with families, respecting boundaries, and maintaining confidentiality when needed.
  • Foster a love of learning in children through engaging interactions and activities.
  • Stay up-to-date with and effectively use the CT Early Learning Developmental Standards (ELDS) to inform planning and instruction.
  • Develop and implement activities that cater to the diverse needs of children, promoting a well-rounded learning experience.
  • Collaborate with the team to plan and prepare a daily schedule that balances routine and child-led experiences, ensuring a smooth and engaging day.
  • Provide individualized instruction and support to children, using various assessment tools to identify their needs.
  • Model and promote positive guidance and behavioral techniques, setting a positive example for children and colleagues alike.
  • Work closely with the lead teacher to develop and implement a daily schedule that incorporates best practices and promotes a sense of community.
  • Stay organized and up-to-date with documentation and observation, using the CT DOTS system to track progress and inform instruction.
  • Participate in family conferences and contribute to the development of individualized plans for children with IEPs or other support needs.
  • Ensure a safe and healthy environment by monitoring the classroom and correcting any hazards or sanitation issues promptly.
  • Provide adequate supervision and adhere to staff-to-child ratios at all times.
  • Adhere to good hygiene practices, following WLCDC policies and procedures for handwashing, diapering, and sanitation.
  • Operate the classroom in compliance with licensing regulations, NAEYC criteria, and WLCDC policies and procedures.
  • Enforce safety policies and procedures, and understand emergency procedures as needed.
  • Maintain current medical certifications in First Aid, CPR, and Medication Administration, as required.
  • Attend staff meetings, family events, and in-services, both during and outside regular center hours.
  • Promote WLCDC policies and procedures, as well as the NAEYC code of ethics, within the classroom and with colleagues.
  • Pursue additional training and education opportunities, as required, to enhance personal and professional growth.
  • Support the lead teacher in supervising and training teacher assistants, substitutes, and volunteers.
  • Aid in the training and orientation of new staff members, ensuring a smooth transition and effective teamwork.
  • Engage in ongoing reflection and feedback, developing an annual individualized professional development plan to guide personal and professional growth.
  • Maintain consistent attendance and report to work on time, ensuring continuity of care for children.
  • Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment, interacting positively with all staff members.

Requirements

  • Must have a minimum of 1-2 years of professional child care experience.
  • Exhibits high energy and a positive attitude.
  • Able to work well with others, demonstrating effective teamwork and collaboration.
  • Possesses strong oral and written communication skills, as well as basic computer skills.
  • Holds current certification in Infant/Child CPR and First Aid.
  • Must clear a full background check and pass a health screening.
