Early Childhood Teacher, Alpha - $100,000/year USD
At Alpha, students complete their full academic curriculum in just two hours each day. Adaptive technology delivers the academic instruction. What it cannot do is help a young learner discover they are more capable than they believe — and that is where you come in.
About the role
You will guide young learners, spending your time cultivating confidence, focus, perseverance, and the courage to tackle challenging tasks in children who are still mastering basic skills. You will oversee one K-3 cohort band: either Kindergarten-1st grade or 2nd-3rd grade.
Half of your day consists of dynamic, hour-long workshops focused on life skills such as public speaking, exchanging feedback, and sustaining attention. The remaining half involves coaching — both one-on-one and in small groups — using real-time learning data to ensure every child progresses toward a demanding weekly target. Students should emerge from your workshops more skilled than when they entered, and from your coaching sessions with greater belief in their own abilities.
A teaching certificate or formal education background is not required. We seek someone whom children respect and aspire to impress, and who can maintain rigorous standards without diminishing a child's sense of self-worth.
This is a full-time, in-person position, five days per week, at an Alpha campus in one of the following locations: Oklahoma City or Tulsa, OK; Nashville, TN; Austin or Plano, TX; Park City (Salt Lake City area), UT.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate hour-long life-skills workshops where K-3 students actively practice communication, concentration, and feedback through speaking and movement — not seated listening or passive instruction.
- Provide individual and small-group coaching, utilizing Coachbot (Alpha's real-time learning-analytics tool) to identify which students are falling behind and intervene before weekly goals become unattainable.
- Evaluate life-skill proficiency through Test2Pass, Alpha's demonstrate-competency-to-advance standard, and continue coaching until a student can perform the skill — mere participation is not sufficient.
- Adapt your methods to the developmental stage in front of you: songs, physical activity, and narrative for the youngest learners; autonomy, self-monitoring, and responsibility for 2nd and 3rd graders.
- Establish sufficient trust with each child so they will take on difficult challenges in your presence and persist when initial attempts do not succeed.
- Take ownership of your cohort's performance metrics. Weekly dashboards will display your students' progress visibly to you and the broader team.
- Develop a cohort of K-3 students who are eager to attend school, consistently achieve challenging learning targets week after week, and complete elementary education equipped with life skills — confidence, focus, communication, resilience — that will continue to benefit them for decades.
What You Won’t Be Doing
- Delivering academic instruction to a full classroom. Adaptive software provides the academics.
- Creating curriculum from the ground up. You will adapt and refine existing, proven frameworks, not design them from scratch.
- Overseeing a quiet computer lab. If students are engaged independently and you are inactive, the model is not functioning correctly.
- Reducing expectations when a student encounters difficulty. You guide the student toward the goal — the goal does not shift toward the student.
- Correcting assignments, distributing homework, or managing routine parent communications.
- Working from home or on a part-time basis.
Requirements
- Able and willing to work on-site, five days per week, at one of the Alpha campuses identified in this job posting.
- Bachelor's degree in any discipline. A teaching certificate is not necessary.
- A minimum of 3 years of direct experience working with children ages 4-9 — in teaching, coaching, tutoring, camps, youth programs, children's theater, or comparable environments where children engaged because of your presence.
- Demonstrated success in helping young children achieve goals they initially believed were beyond their reach, with concrete examples you can describe in detail.
- Experience facilitating structured group activities for young children and maintaining engagement, focus, and participation among 10-15 or more students.
- The capacity to communicate concepts clearly to young learners and adjust group dynamics in real time when attention, behavior, or motivation declines.
- A history of responding to feedback by modifying your methods and improving results.
- Comfortable with performance measurement. You will be held accountable to weekly cohort data and will use that information to prioritize your efforts.
- Open to allowing AI to manage academic instruction while you concentrate on coaching, motivation, and life skills.
- The capacity to be authentically caring and unwaveringly firm on standards, simultaneously.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship.
Nice-to-have Requirements
- Background in youth sports, children's theater, camp leadership, Montessori education, progressive schooling, or high-engagement after-school programs.
- A personal experience pursuing something ambitious — whether in academics, athletics, the arts, or your professional career — and learning what sustained effort requires.
- Storytelling or performance skills that captivate a room of six-year-olds without needing to raise your voice.
- Concrete examples of transforming a hesitant or reserved child into a confident, active participant.
